2024-2025 Audition Information
Dates: Saturday, May 18 & Sunday, May 19, 2024
Audition Materials
Youth Symphony & Chamber Orchestra
All instruments are required to prepare the following:
All 12 Major Scales and one melodic minor scale of your choice
(as many octaves as you can comfortably play)Solo of your choice (no longer than 2 minutes)
Audition excerpts for your instrument:
Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass
Woodwinds: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon
Brass & Percussion: Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Percussion
Sight reading (will be disclosed at the time of the audition)
String Orchestra
All instruments are required to prepare the following:
Scales: Two 3-octave scales of your choice (in keys that represent your current capabilities),
played at quarter note = 60, two quarter notes slurred in a bow, forte, using the whole bow and demonstrating your best vibratoSolo: Please prepare a 60 second solo of your choice that shows your current level of advancement
Audition excerpts are selections from Ode to the Plains and Glorious Plumage
Excerpts must be performed with metronome. You may choose the tempo.Sight reading (will be disclosed at the time of the audition)
Intermezzo Orchestra
All instruments are required to prepare the following:
C, G, D, F, and B-flat Major Scales
Audition excerpts for your instrument:
Sight reading (will be disclosed at the time of the audition)
Prelude Strings
All instruments are required to prepare the following:
G and D Major Scales
Audition excerpts for your instrument:
Sight reading (will be disclosed at the time of the audition)
Concert Band
All instruments are required to prepare the following:
Major scales up to four flats and four sharps
A solo or etude of your choice (no longer than 2 minutes)
Sight reading (will be disclosed at the time of the audition)
